Step 2: Set Clear and Measurable Goals (Or You'll Never Know If You're Winning)
Let's say you decide to "do more marketing." Great. But what does that actually mean?
• Post more on Instagram? • Run some Google ads? • Send a newsletter once a month?
Without clear goals, "doing more marketing" becomes a hamster wheel. You're running fast, burning energy, and going absolutely nowhere.
Here's the fix: Set SMART goals.
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It's not sexy, but it works.
Let's compare:
Vague Goal: "I want more clients."
SMART Goal: "I want to increase new client bookings by 25% in the next 90 days by running a Google Ads campaign targeting 'balayage near me' and offering a first-time client discount."
See the difference? The second goal tells you exactly what success looks like, how you're going to get there, and when you'll know if it worked.
Here are some examples of SMART goals for salons:
• Increase website traffic by 30% in the next 60 days through SEO-optimized blog content.
• Grow Instagram followers by 500 in three months by posting three times per week and running one giveaway per month.
• Boost email open rates from 18% to 25% by testing subject lines and segmenting the list by service type.
• Generate 50 new Google reviews in the next quarter by implementing an automated review request system.
The key: If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. And if you can't manage it, you're just hoping, and hope is not a strategy.
